Epilepsy Action
For thousands of years people didn’t understand what epilepsy was. They were scared of it and they treated anyone with epilepsy as an outcast.
More knowledge and understanding in the first half of the 20th century meant that attitudes began to improve. But change was slow and life was still very hard for most people with epilepsy.
At this time, pioneers like Joseph Tylor Fox argued that an organisation was needed to represent epilepsy and the interests of everyone who was affected by the condition. Less than one year after his death, the organisation that he had long called for finally came into being. In July 1950, the British Epilepsy Association (BEA) was launched with the purpose of changing public attitudes towards epilepsy and improving people’s lives.

A genuine start in life for children who have nothing
The grinding poverty that dominates so many lives in India is especially shocking when it affects vulnerable children who have no means of helping themselves.
Soham For Kids is a welcoming school that helps some of India’s most deprived children to benefit from a start in life that most of us take for granted.
A holistic approach: we provide vital clothing, food and healthcare alongside education.
Non-denominational: unlike many schools in India, we accept children of all faiths and none.
Completely free: while some charitable schools India charge for places, we do not.
Aiding the community: we provide classes and other facilities to help the families and guardians of our pupils.

Soham Swimming Pool
Since 1990 the children of St. Andrews CE Primary School in Soham have been swimming in an open air wood/metal structure pool during the summer term, previously this pool had been in use at one of the towns old junior schools. In late 2009 / early 2010 the pool was subject to a formal safety inspection, during this inspection it became apparent that the pool was structurally unsafe and as a result was condemned. Further analysis of the safety inspection results showed that it was not financially viable to repair.
The Association was formed over the summer of 2010 by parents of children whom attended St. Andrews CE Primary School, with the sole intention of raising funds to replace the existing pool with a roofed building allowing swimming to take place during the majority of the year. Once the building phase has been completed the Association will act as a maintenance and enhancement fund raising partner, it will also act as a swimming membership organisation for children and their families opening the pool to the wider community outside school hours and term times.
We believe that due to the geographical nature of our rural location, with many rivers, reservoirs, ditches, dykes and streams that it is as important to help children learn to life save, as it is to learn to swim.

Neema School Kenya Trust
The Neema School ( Kenya ) Trust was set up ten years ago after the founders,Margaret and Geoff Trimby, had been on a holiday in Kikambala after buying a timeshare .
They immediately fell in love with the country and its people. The Kenyans are the most friendly and happy nation of people who have absolutely nothing. Many of them live in villages, in huts with no water, no sanitation, no electricity and very little in the way of food or clothing. Imagine the children of England trying to cope with this - no computers, I pods or mobile phones !!
Margaret and Geoff went to visit a small poor school housed in a shed , no desks just 35 children sitting on the earth floor. The teacher had an old blackboard and bits of chalk to write work onto the blackboard. She then had to go outside as there was not enough space for her and the children in the room. The room was hot , airless and dirty. The children's clothing was dirty and in holes and they did not have books or pencils.
The first thing they did after this visit was to go to Mombasa to buy exercise books , pencils and chalk and take them to the school teacher.
Margaret and Geoff decided they wanted to help and when they came home to England set about fund raising to build a school for the poor and orphaned children in the area.

The Big Issue
Our movement was born at a time of great hardship and recession. Our mission over the last 21 years has been to offer homeless people a unique opportunity to help themselves, an opportunity to embark on their own personal journey away from homelessness. 21 years after the formation of the business we have changed homelessness. The spirit of self-help has been ingrained in society. Yet our work is not done. The recession is deepening and the demand for our support has never been greater. Entirely reliant on the generosity of our supporters, we have helped thousands of people over the years and will need to help thousands more as we move forward.
