What is the Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) Course?

Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) is an intense course of a minimum of 8 training jumps (levels) and 10 consolidation jumps. The course gets its name 'Accelerated' due the fact that is a quick way of learning to skydive. Ideally the AFF course should be completed within a week or over a few weekends. Consistency and continuity are paramount to get the most from the course and to avoid re-train fees. Given good weather and commitment the course could be completed in as little as 3-4 days. Once completed you will be classed as a qualified 'A Licence skydiver' and this is where your skydiving career really begins.

Restrictions - Maximum weight limit is 16st. Minimum age is 16 years (parental consent required). All participants must sign a 'declaration of fitness' medical form before taking part in any skydiving activities, and all those over 40 years of age must have the form (which will be supplied in advance) signed by their doctor.

Clothing Required - Clothing should be comfortable and non-restrictive and training type shoes should be worn.

Spectator Information - We welcome spectators. We have an on-site bar and diner and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a lead and any fouling picked up.

Weather Restrictions - Our sport is weather dependant and although it is possible to jump throughout the year and in most conditions, there are limitations for safety reasons. If your chosen day is affected by adverse weather conditions you can simply rebook for another day. It is only possible for us to determine the weather on the day of the event, this is Britain after all!

Other Information - The sport is naturally extremely safety conscious and tightly governed by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) who through the British Parachuting Association (BPA) regulates and monitors all parachuting activity in the UK. All our instructors hold valid BPA qualifications.

  • You don't have to do the whole AFF Course. Some people only want to do a one off skydive but prefer the challenge of a solo skydive, so chose to do AFF Level 1 instead of a tandem.

Level 1: This consists of a full day's ground training from one of our experienced AFF Instructors before taking to the air. The course covers all the information you require for your first skydive. The training includes lectures, briefings, practical and emergency exercises. When you come to do your first skydive you will be wearing your own parachute and will exit the aircraft at 13,000ft with 2 AFF Instructors holding on to you. The instructors will stay right by your side during free fall until you open your own parachute at 5000ft. An instructor will then guide you to the ground via a radio (in your helmet) whilst also putting the canopy training you received into practice.

Level 2 & 3: Also completed with 2 AFF Instructors from 13,000ft, levels 2 and 3 will help you progress with movement and altitude awareness in free fall before deploying your parachute at 5000ft.

Levels 4, 5, 6 & 7: Now you have passed the first 3 levels you will jump with just one AFF Instructor from 13,000ft for these levels. You will learn further movement, control, observation and tracking before deploying your parachute at 5000ft.

Level 8: You are now on your own! This jump is from 5000ft and is known as a 'hop and pop', which means that you will open your parachute as soon as you are stable after exit.

Consolidation skydives: You have to complete 10 of these before gaining your A Licence. You will be checked and dispatched from the aircraft at 13,000ft by an instructor, but will exit the plane on your own. This is your chance to practice everything you have learnt with a little less pressure, so enjoy the ride!

Following levels 1 -8, your instructor will give you a full debrief, including any additional training required. He will let you know if you are ready to go to the next level or if you have to repeat the previous one.

Our instructors are here to answer all your questions and help you overcome any fears you may have. They are some of the most experienced skydivers in the UK with thousands of jumps each so use them to ask questions and learn everything you can to become a safe and skilled skydiver.
